Candy Candy Jewellery Shoot

Helena at Candy Candy Jewellery got in touch when I advertised that I had some free studio time, she brought along two dressses she had designed for herself and also some of her lovely accessories. The plan was for Helena to model them all, but Frankii Wilde was up for hanging around to model them, this was my favourite photo from the shoot.

Was great to shoot something with more of a traditional fashion theme. I hope to collaborate with Helena at Candy Candy again with a location shoot, which we both felt might compliment the designs more than in a studio shoot.

Frankii Wilde Photoshoot

Was contacted by the lovely Frankii Wilde, burlesque lady and model from Middlesborough a few weeks ago for a test shoot, so we worked together last week. No plan just asked Frankii to bring whatever she wanted to wear and we improvised.

Frankii brought some awesome things and was an amazing girl to work with, natural model and great clothes, makeup and styling.

Dani California Shoot

Also on Friday, I did a shoot with another Burlesque lady, Dani California, who is also a trained dancer. I wanted to do a shoot inspired by vintage photographs of Ballet Dancers, back in the day they were considered equal celebrities to movie stars and musicians, their photographs not unusual to see in the pages of Vogue.

So Dani got her hands on some tutus and brought along her lovely bespoke red ballet shoe pasties by Adora Belle and her red pointe shoes, lovingly customised with red rhinestones and came to the studio to pose for me.

After looking at some more vintage Vogue photographs, I decided I wanted to attempt to re-create the look of some of the early coloured photographs with a twist, so experimented in Photoshop with de-saturating and adding coloured photo filters. To add a twist I add textures of tulle fabric and some spot light textures that I shot in the studio to give the final image an antique and painterly quality to it. I'm very proud of it, although I think I could improve the techniques used, so this is something I'm going to look into further.

Miss Cobweb Shoot

Worked with alternative model, Miss Cobweb on Friday. Borrowed clothes from the lovely Dawn at Ages of Elegance for a shoot inspired by Pre-Raphaelite women. Went with the most amount of luggage I've ever taken to a shoot, so many random bits. I really wanted to take this oppourtunity to experiment and try and find out what else I can do with limited supplies.

Lucky enough to get the studio for the full day, but unfortunatly the lights, because they are battery powered and only have the option of being on constant do not last long, so I had to try out an alternative lighting technique. So called upon my boyfriend, Matt to come help and we managed to create the most perfect, beautful lighting for under a fiver!! Shot in complete darkness with three of those cheap lights which you push to switch on, battery powered, we had two with blue LED's and one with an orangy yellow bulb in. I put the camera on the tripod and held one light with my spare hand and Matt held the other two lights and we aimed them for the parts of Miss Cobweb that we wanted to highlight and I am so chuffed with the results!!

I must admit though, despite trying to do a Pre-Raphaelite shoot I did end up going off on one, but in a wonderful way, created something beautiful and interesting and had loads of fun.

Diva Hollywood Shoot

I've been so excited about working with Diva Hollywood for months now, she approached me after I was recommended to her by my muse Anna Fur Laxis, I was so chuffed as Diva, like Anna is one of the Burlesque Royalty (in my opinion and I'm sure many of the northerners would agree!) Diva drove from Liverpool to work with me and brought her stunning 'Starlight' costume which is white feathers, satin and lots of silver sparkles with the most gorgeous showgirl headdress and feather fans customised with glitter, diamonte and fairy lights. Diva suggested shooting the costume lit with lights with blues gels, because as her experience as a performer she always try to perform this under blue light....so after a savange around the studio I managed to find some and I was blown away by the results!!

I think this shoot with Diva is definitly one of my highlights so far, mainly because of the stunning outcomes but also because it was an incredible chance to work with a very interesting, friendly and inspiring woman.

I would also like to say that this shoot was helped alot by my day modelling with photographer India Hobson on Monday, her enthsiasim and skill with lighting passed on to me which resulted in me approaching the Diva shoot with a new found confidence and positive outlook. Thank you India!

Introduction

Let me introduce myself. My name is Jayne and I'm a final year student in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Over the last year I have been learning photography in the aim to take it to a professional level. I have worked as a fashion model which has given me the oppourtunity to work with many fantastic local photographers, make up artists, stylists and clothing designers, helping me to pick up lots of useful tips for my photography.

Through a life long interest in the vintage aesthetic and vintage glamour it has led me to meet and work with alot of burlesque artists and pin-up models, therefore leading me to specialise in burlesque and pin-up and being well known in the North England Burlesque scene as a photographer. I have had the honour to work with the best of Northern Burlesque, it's been sooo much fun!

Although I specialise in Burlesque and Pin-up I am interested in taking photographs of all genres and subjects, since I'm still learning I am still experimenting and trying to find out what I do best. Once I have completed my degree in May 2009 I hope to pursue a career as a freelance photographer so am looking for any oppourtunities.

The purpose of this blog is for me to be able to reflect on my work, publish my work and my thoughts in another area of the internet in the hope that current fans can keep up to date and that new people become fans.
